My Name Is Annemarie Schwarzenbach / Je suis Annemarie Schwarzenbach
International Feature Film CompetitionAnnemarie Schwarzenbach was a truly distinctive personality of the bohemian community in 1920s. She provoked with her androgynous appearance, openly lesbian orientation, exceptional literary talent, anti-Fascism, and a penchant for drug addictions. One of her lovers described her as “the most beautiful human being that I've ever met”. As a result of her wild lifestyle, Annemarie died very young and her fate was as if forgotten. Yet director Véronique Aubouy proves in her film that Annemarie is still present as a fascinating image of a person outside social conventions and gender stereotypes. Now, she will be revived in a theatre adaptation of her life: a group of young people come to an out-of-the-way flat for a public casting to determine which of them “is Annemarie Schwarzenbach”. In their efforts to become an authentic impersonation of the historical figure, the participants soon become unable to distinguish what is a part of the role and what is their real life.
