Pooja, Sir
International Feature Film CompetitionDetective inspector Pooja lives with her girlfriend and her old father in Kathmandu. When two little boys are kidnapped in the south of the country, she is called to a town on the Indian border to help the local policewoman. But her investigation is complicated by the political situation and the violently suppressed protests of the Madhesi minority. The two women are therefore almost alone in their fight against discrimination, omnipresent misogyny, and the privileges of the powerful. Will they manage to save the children? And at what cost? Based on real events from 2015, this thrilling detective story addresses issues burning all around the world. The film also offers a realistic picture of Nepal to Czech audiences, touching on the topics of gender and sexuality through its fleshed-out protagonists. And we’re bringing you this film mere months after it competed in Venice in the Horizon section.
