While the Western world is fighting for legalizing marriage equality, in most African countries, same-sex relationships are still a criminal offense. In his investigative documentary Code of Fear, director Appolain Siewe returns to his native Cameroon to draw attention to the brutal murders within the queer community. With dogged determination, he investigates the genesis of the burgeoning homophobia, which is not rooted in the traditional Cameroonian culture. He interviews members of the underground LGBTQ+ community, activists, and experts, while also speaking with friends and family. How will his return home be impacted by the fact that he’s making a queer-themed documentary?
