Any Day Now
International Feature Film CompetitionThe one and only Alan Cumming is at his most stunning starring in the role of a lifetime as Rudy Donatello - a drag queen from a run-down cabaret, who , makes just enough money for a cubbyhole among other losers in West Hollywood in 1970s America. His landlord is threatening him for the overdue rent and the junkie neighbour satisfies her customers with heavy metal blazing through the building, while her son with Down syndrome waits in the hallway. The impulsive Rudy takes him in and kick starts the chain of events swinging between misery and hope - with the at first reluctant aid of his spectator and random lover. His lover is a slightly frustrated divorce lawyer, who underneath his reserved exterior has the heart of a lion with enough courage to love a drag queen and join Rudy in an unprecedented fight. They fight to convince the court that they have a right to be parents and the abandoned boy has a right to his adoptive dads and a happy ending. This incredibly touching drama winning audience awards at many festivals is spattered with humor and accuracy of the true events that inspired it.
