Young Hunter / El cazador
International Feature Film CompetitionWhen the parents of fifteen-year-old Ezequiel leave for a month, he finally has enough time and space to satisfy his growing sexual tension. He soon finds distraction in the arms of an older boy, Mono, with whom he enjoys liberating moments of physical as well as spiritual intimacy. But the seemingly idyllic coexistence is soon disturbed by Mono’s “cousin”, who sees not only a handsome youth in Ezequiel, but also an opportunity to make a profit. Ezequiel finds himself in a desperate situation where he must suppress both feelings and morals. Who in this story is the hunter, and who the hunted? The line between good and evil blurs and is just as hard to distinguish as the genre of the film. Thriller conventions are interspersed with glimpses of a coming-of-age narrative as well as art film. Marco Berger again plays with audience expectations when he lets the imagery glow with sexual energy, without ever explicitly exposing anything. Just as the protagonist gets trapped by a man, the fictional world subjugates us more and more with its sophisticated use of means of expression.
