The Battle of amfAR
Documentary: Fight for Your Life“Nobody's safe. AIDS isn't a disease of a minority, but a threat for us all.” Elizabeth Taylor's appeal about the dire need to finance AIDS treatment research could be heard everywhere. She wasn't afraid to speak at political meetings and publicly join the activism even when such support was more than unpopular. In the 1980s, both the government and media systematically remained silent about this issue, and many who were infected, suffered through their last days in shame, loneliness, and without medical help. The film icon gave her face and voice to the research efforts of Dr. Mathilde Krim and her team, who, fighting against the government's blindness and very limited financial means, persistently kept working to find a way to stop this epidemic and give some hope to people living with HIV. The film by the Oscar-winning directing duo, Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein (The Times of Harvey Milk, Howl), will be accompanied by a discussion with Czech activists who continue performing this enlightening work because silence = death.
