Blue Jean
International Feature Film CompetitionHow do you date a queer rights activist while hiding your orientation? Jean, a charming gym teacher, has surprisingly managed to do it so far. Coming out during Margaret Thatcher's reign would have undoubtedly resulted in losing her job. The fear of discovery forces Jean to hide her relationship and live a schizophrenic life between the school and a lesbian bar. But is it possible to stand idly by and watch bullying between female students because of the lesbian orientation of one of them? Who, after all, has a greater duty to intervene than her? The struggle between her own conscience and her instinct to save her career is also complicated by the threat to her relationship. And it's becoming clear to Jean that things can't go on like this. How much can we lose before we find the courage to be ourselves? This viewer-friendly yet complex insight into the soul of a young woman offers an 80s retro
aesthetic and many powerful moments that pose an uneasy question: How would I behave?
