What He Did / Det Han Gjorde
DocumentaryThe year is 1988, and the work of a promising playwright, Jens Michael Schau, is being applauded by critics. He has also been the lover of Christian Kampmann, a popular and respected writer, for thirteen years. Recently, Jens is becoming increasingly worried that Christian doesn't love him anymore, and, in a fit of jealousy, kills the man who is everything to him. After seven years in prison, he becomes a recluse in search of his soul while avoiding the friends he used to have together with Christian. When the murder becomes the subject matter of a new play after many years, Jens gradually returns to being in the public eye, and it's a question to what extent he will be able to speak about the painful past. This powerful portrait of a broken man, whom the director had been trying to befriend for five years, offers an ingenious contemplation of human conscience and the capacity for forgiveness, as well as of fateful love, which can destroy whatever one holds dear.
