Do Nothing Live
Do YourselfGreat Britain is the cradle of the stand-up comedy genre in which the set-up constitutes a single performer against the “forgive no weakness or hesitation” audience. And it is from the Queen's realm that the current masters of the discipline come from - to deliver a confession on their experiences and views of life, while armed only with a microphone, no costume or props, in a tough-love and honest manner blended with dry-as-a-desert humor and brutal self-irony. And Simon Amstell is the prince royal of English stand-up; his performance in Dublin's Vicar Street Theatre constitutes the Do Nothing film. Amstell vivisects his past attempts at dating and relationships that have not been on the successful side. Also starring in his narration are: his stereotypical Jewish family which is “racist as they have too much free time”; his cat that is supposed to brighten up his loneliness and is named Solitude; the enduring teenage crush on Jared Leto and in the spotlight the panic inducing notion of taking the initiative in asking a guy out, but what would happen then?
