- Mezipatra Queer Film Festival with this year’s theme of Crossroads will present 69 feature and documentary films with LGBTQ+ topics.
- The opening ceremony in Lucerna cinema will be hosted by Ivana Veselková and Zuzana Fuksová from Radio Wave’s Buchty show.
- The film launching this year’s festival will be Fireworks (Stranizza d'amuri).
With its theme of Crossroads, Mezipatra’s 24th edition tells the tales of life crossroads which lack any clear signs of direction for the film protagonists. Altogether, the program will introduce 69 feature, documentary and short films.
“The starting line for queer people is different than for the majority – we must first discover and realize who we really are. For most of us, this is followed by coming out to those closest to us, and then every other coming out throughout our lives. Mezipatra is coming to a Crossroads this year, and me and the team are grateful that we can set off on the right path. At least in the film sense for now,” says festival director Pavel Bicek. “I am personally very much looking forward to Passages. It is a film about an unusual love triangle with a star European cast such as Ben Whishaw. And the documentary section is excellent as well, showing all the various social issues and topics in original ways. For example documentary M Is for Mothers, about a slightly different than usual path to motherhood.”
Mezipatra also features an abundant accompanying program. Worth mentioning is definitely the Queering the Industry section which allows a peek into the workings of the film industry. Many Czech and worldwide professionals will offer their insights, and the festival will also welcome distinguished guests. Mezipatra’s visitors this year boast the Mexican director Diego del Río, the German actor and director Fabian Stumm, the French filmmaker Gaël Lépingle and director Hannes Hirsch.
The opening ceremony will take place in Lucerna cinema on Thursday, November 2. The evening will be hosted by the great duo of Ivana Veselková and Zuzana Fuksová from Radio Wave’s Buchty show. Their introduction will be followed by the screening of Fireworks (Stranizza d'amuri), an Italian film based on the true events of a love between two boys in 1980s Sicily.
After the film finishes, the audience may move to the Swim club nearby for the Technicolor opening party.
