• Mezipatra documentary section is introducing three films this year.
  • The theme of the festival’s 21st edition, which takes place solely online for the first time, is “Recovery”, drawing attention to the physical and mental health of LGBTQ+ people.
  • The program also includes short films, divided into seven feature-length blocks.

Apart from feature films, the queer film festival will also present three documentaries. In a separate section, they bring a faithful account of queer history. Before Stonewall depicts last century’s transformation of the queer community which had to fight hard for their rights against the majority society. The Oscar-nominated How to Survive a Plague takes audiences back to the 1980s when AIDS epidemic broke out in the Western world. The documentary maps the protest activities of groups which, using provocative methods, drew attention to the American government’s unwillingness to deal with the “homosexual cancer”. Contrastingly, The Invisibles (Les Invisibles) offer an intimate portrait of relationships of the older queer generation, as many of them can enjoy a quiet relationship only in their old age owing to the influence of social transformations.

Short films divided into seven thematic block will compete for the prize of the student jury. Inequality and discrimination of minorities is discussed in the animated block of I Wake up Colorful and trans block of You Look As If I Am Not There. The protagonists of the lesbian block of On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown strive to walk the thin line of mental health. Well-chosen therapy may save you, but what to do when you cannot take the outside pressure any more? The protagonists of Torn from the Chain gay block will give you some tips. The importance of a safe space, being it inside four walls or in the hug of our loved ones, is addressed in the documentary block of Tiny Safe Spaces. Families that leave scars on the soul are the problem of protagonists in It Will Pass. And Forbidden Joys allow us a peek into the most secret imaginations as they slowly come to light.

All films will be available online at mezipatra.cz throughout the whole festival. The price of one film is CZK 80 and it will be accessible for 72 hours from the moment one starts playing it. Pass for the whole festival costs CZK 950. The pass unlocks the whole festival selection with the same rule of 72 hours. Each festival day will also offer a live broadcast of Mezipatra LIVE via social media – Facebook (facebook.com/mezipatra) and YouTube (youtube.com/mezipatraqff), with live streams of discussions with filmmakers, interviews with festival guests, and the accompanying program.
