The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson

On July 6, 1992, the body of Marsha P. Johnson was found in a river. She was a transgender legend who proudly identified as a drag queen according to contemporary slang and who, together with Sylvia Riveira, established the world's very first organization focusing on the rights of trans people. The police closed the case as suicide despite the queer community´s disagreement, and refused to
re-open it despite protests. Did the “street queen” (as she called herself) take her own life? Could
Marsha P. Johnson, so engaged in the Stonewall uprising and ACT UP activities, have annoyed someone with her behaviour and actions so much so that they´d resort to murder? Twenty-five years after the tragic event, David France, accompanied by Victoria Cruz, a passionate activist fighting against violence directed at the trans community, returns to the past to find out what truly happened. Offering more than a relevant testimony, the thrilling documentary premiered at this year´s Sundance and has already won several festival awards.
