Prague, October 11, 2017 – The trailer for this year's Mezipatra Queer Film Festival will premiere in the newly-opened Patra community café on Tuesday, October 17. On Wednesday, October 18, the festival will also reveal this year's program and open the ticket sale for individual screenings.
Visitors can already purchase the reduced festival passes for the price of five tickets, which are valid for any seven screenings. In Prague, they will be sold for CZK 540 until October 18, and in Brno for the same price until the end of the festival.
“In the trailer, we focused on the forms of trans identity in today's society in the trailer,” says Štěpán FOK Vodrážka, a director who already cooperated with the festival on the 15th edition's trailer. “Thanks to virtual reality, the central duo is able experience the situation truly for themselves. Seemingly a boy, it is actually a girl who transfers into another body with the help of virtual reality.”
According to the director, the selection of the protagonists themselves played an important part as well: “I am really glad that the Biblical perfection of Adam in the story is portrayed by Damian Machaj from the Trans*parent initiative. Who else should portray the ideal of male beauty than this handsome, confident young man.” The trailer features also actor Jiří Šimek, who has appeared for example in the film Anthropoid, and actress Kamila Trnková.
From a unique documentary to a relationship-based drama
The topic of the 18th edition, Be Your Own Champion, is reflected in the film selection as well. The documentary section will introduce The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson by director David France. In the film, closely investigates the unsolved murder of a New York legend, trans activist and the face of Stonewall riots. The crime investigation was hampered by the indifference of the authorities, and the case was re-opened only thanks to the pressure of the activist's friends and of the whole community.
The main feature film competition will present Paths (Ein Weg), a German drama about a middle-aged gay couple's relationship crisis. The film's director, Chris Miera, will be one of the festival's guests. Other films include the mysterious Norwegian drama Thelma, directed by Joachim Trier, and biographic Tom of Finland.
As tradition dictates, the accompanying program will offer discussions with experts and interesting lectures. This year, Mezipatra has prepared discussions about women in music, the genderqueer revolution in pop-culture, and a meeting with young filmmakers from FAMU. One of the program's highlights will be an exclusive performance of the Kjell Theøry play in Venuše ve Švehlovce.
