• Mezipatra Queer Film Festival is preparing a unique screening of American Grandma.
  • The film was directed by the well-known director Paul Weitz, starring the amazing Golden-Globe nominee, comedian Lily Tomlin.
  • The comedy enchanted audiences at Sundance festival as well at at last year's Mezipatra.

The third evening of this year's Mezipatra Approved will delight not only those visitors who missed the screening of Grandma in November at Mezipatra, but also those who would like to repeat the experience. Paul Weitz's comedy road-movie may be seen on screen only once – on Friday, 10th July, in the big screening hall of Lucerna cinema.

The film is ruled by the American actress Lily Tomlin as quirky grandma Elle who is trying to deal with the death of her long-term partner. She also breaks up with her current girlfriend, and she decides to help her granddaughter Sage (Julia Garner) get the $630 needed for an abortion on top of all that. Together, they set off on a journey to visit old friends, lovers of both genders, and also Sage's dreaded mother (Marcia Gay Harden).

The independent comedy enchanted audiences at its premiere at Sundance festival and received many award nominations, including GLAAD Media Award and Gotham Award. Lily Tomlin, a famous stand-up comedian, singer, and the star of Nashville (1975) and The Late Show (1977), was even nominated for the Golden Globe for the best actress for her role in Grandma.

Director Paul Weitz is no film newbie either. His filmography includes for example the famous American Pie (1999), and About a Boy (2002), which he co-directed with his brother, Chris Weitz. He is currently directing the third season of Mozart in the Jungle, and cooperating with Second Stage theatre in Manhattan, which has already presented four of his plays.

Mezipatra will offer a 30CZK discount on the ticket for Grandma for those visitors who will bring a receipt from one of the venues of the so-called HateFree Zone, which was damaged by unknown Neo-Nazi sympathisers in April. The establishments include mamacoffee café, La Bibiche restaurant, Cafe V lese club and café, Spravna podprsenka butique, and Inkdividual tattoo parlour. The discount applies only to tickets bought at the cinema box office.

After the screening, the viewers are invited to (A)VOID Floating Gallery boat, which is anchored at Vyton. The Summerphilia afterparty will present festival's resident DJs Urxins and Aid Kid, the winner of Vinyla award for the Discovery of the Year 2015. The party starts at 22:30 and admission is free.
