• Viewers watch the trailer of the new edition of Mezipatra Queer Film Festival for the first time on Thursday, 8th October.
  • The festival will start on 5th November in Prague and on 12th November in Brno. Festival passes are already for sale.
  • The whole program will be published by the end of this week.

Prague, 13th October 2015 – The trailer, starring actors Stanislav Majer and Jan Nedbal, and also the steelworks in Kraluv Dvur, was introduced by its creator, Jakub Smid, in NEONE club, Prague. He confessed that he was inspired by two men – Majer himself, and the legendary Soviet director and protagonist of the drama Eisenstein in Guanajuato, which will be presented at Mezipatra this year.

"Among others, Sergei Eisenstein also made a film about the working-class revolutionary movement, Ten Days That Shook the World, whose name also inspired the festival's topic. Personally, I borrowed his film language and industrial environment. I imagined sweaty Standa as an iron-founder amidst dirt and heat – and the idea was born," says the actor and director who takes over in the series of promising young filmmakers.

"Me and Jakub kind of know each other, and I think we understand one another, so long explanations weren't necessary. The shooting was absolutely fascinating thanks to the selected location, I even have dreams about it sometimes," adds Stanislav Majer with a smile. "I was excited by the atmosphere of the steelworks – a place where steel changes shape, structure and smell. And the guys working there? Amazing, helpful little devils who provided us with perfect service with a hot shower and a jar of heavy-duty hand cleaner. A paradise for filmmakers!"

Apparently, he accepted the offer to cooperate with Mezipatra not only thanks to his friendship with the festival team: "I also still feel around me that even educated people whom I respect have sometimes a problem to accept someone else's different sexuality. Or even their own. I think it is important to show them that sexual minorities shouldn't be merely tolerated, they should be respected."

First films and festival-pass bargain

As a part of the evening, the program director Lucia Kajankova revealed the highlights of this year's program – for example: 54: The Director's Cut, a more daring, more honest and valuable version of the 1998 drama, 54, Boulevard with the recently deceased Robin Williams in his last film role, the disquieting documentary A Sinner in Mecca, and the iconic musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is celebrating its 40th birthday this year.

Mezipatra, however, is sixteen this year. Those who want to celebrate the sweet birthday properly may buy a festival pass: for the price of less than five films, they can see seven. The passes for Prague cost 540 CZK and are available only until 25th October, the passes for Brno are for 490 CZK and are available until the end of the festival. Both are for sale at the cinema box offices or their websites.

On Thursday, 15th October, Mezipatra will reveal the whole program of this year and start with ticket sale for the individual films. The sixteenth edition of the festival, titled “Days That Shook the World”, will take place in Prague from 5th to 12th November, in Brno from 12th to 18th November, and in other Czech cities in regional echoes.
