Prague, Aug.7, 2014. The Mezipatra Queer Film Festival added even more colour to Prague Pride with its outdoor screenings. Even before the 15th Mezipatra festival, audiences had an opportunity to enjoy four A-class queer-related movies that will be screened for the first time in the Czech Republic! A special part of Mezipatra: “Mezipatra – Identity in the City”, started Monday, Aug. 11, in Prague’s Containall and lasted until Aug. 14.
It’s not all about the movies, though –visitors had an opportunity to discuss both serious and less serious topics while enjoying special meals made by Mezipatra chefs.
“Last year, our ‘Identity in the City’ was met with major interest during Prague Pride. Every day, we met hundreds of people in the cinema under the stars, and we provided the visitors of Prague Pride an evening program. We are therefore happy to be able to come back this year. People will be comfortable in Containall, so we are prepared for two of the best three things in the world: food and films,” Mezipatra’s director Aleš Rumpel said at the time.
The outdoor screenings started at 8:30 p.m. The Monday brought a German hit My world is disco, which tells a story of growing up to the rhythm of 80s melodies. On Tuesday was a love story Happy ending?!, in which a student Lucca meets wild rocker Valeria, and on the Wednesday we prepared a transgender romantic comedy How a Guy Met a Girl. On the Thursday we screened Stranger by the Lake, which evoked much controversies with its sexually explicit scenes and was awarded a Queer Palm at last year‘s Cannes film festival.
Debates with inspirational guests always start at 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday film critiques František Fuka (fffilm.name) and Petr Cífka (moviezone.cz) will be debating on the topic of film Guilty Pleasures, on Wednesday we will introduce out (Un)handy hands, because we will be initiated to the phenomena of do-it-yourself by a blogger from Minty Finty. Thursday will be beautiful. The winners of beauty pageants will visit and Tony Čejka, will explain, what are these events looking for and celebrating. The Gay of the year will arrive.
