American Vagabond
Documentary: Fight for Your LifeSan Francisco was supposed to be their promised land. James and his boyfriend, Tyler, are running away from home and especially their conservative parents, who haven't accepted their sexual orientation. James and Tyler are looking for a refuge from provincial homophobia. Yet the most gay city in the world soon gives them the finger; and instead of a welcoming embrace, they end up holding a sign saying “Homeless and hungry, anything helps.” James and Tyler don't give up. They go to job interviews clutching their resumes after nights spent in city parks. And they are hardly alone. A numerous group of gays and lesbians, who faced incomprehension or actual aggression at home, share their fate of living on the streets. In this critically acclaimed modern story of love disfavored by fate as well as modern society, Finnish director Susanne Helke shows the widespread phenomenon of youth homelessness, and offers both a visual and emotionally strong experience.
