Fei is one of the moneyboys - that's what sex workers for rich men are called in China. The illegal and risky profession ensures a comfortable life not only for him, but also for his relatives living in the remote countryside. When it becomes clear at a family reunion that those close to Fei will never accept his sexuality and profession, a heartbroken Fei returns to town. Can he come to terms with his past without hurting everyone around him? Chinese-Austrian director C.B. Yi reflects on a number of highly topical themes in his internationally successful and visually captivating debut feature. Is the acceptance of the family or one's own happiness the greatest value? Saving face or economic success? The political context of the film is also interesting - due to the theme of homosexuality, its production had to be moved to Taiwan, whose locations in the film depicted both the Chinese countryside and the throbbing metropolis.

The ceremonial premiere will take place at the Lucerna cinema on Friday 29 September 2022

Director, screenwriter and producer C.B. Yi has Chinese roots, but since his studies he has lived in Vienna, where Michael Haneke, among others, participated in his film education. The film Moneyboys is his feature debut, which he worked on for almost 8 years and was shot in Taiwan. It premiered in Cannes as part of the prestigious Un Certain Regard competition for young talents.
